Hello Kerry, welcome to the lorries!
Kerry Quintiliani recently joined our LA-based crew and has a thing for business technology, whether it’s hi-tech medical treatments or VR headsets for schools. We caught up with Kerry to dig a little deeper into what makes her tick – beyond her two cats and a tortoise that have yet to make it to the office.
How did you get your first B2B tech PR job and find your way to the lorries?
I went into tech PR after I graduated from college. After many years of bopping around the Boston-area PR scene, I finally worked with (the Lorries’ own) Michelle Barry at an agency. She wrangled me for the lorries after I transplanted to the West coast.
What advice would you give to someone who’s interested working in finding a B2B tech PR job?
This is not a job where you can expect to know everything at once, so give yourself time to learn and develop your own technique. This job is constantly changing and you’ll need to be able to change with it.
What is your favourite part of working in PR?
I like getting coverage for my clients and making them happy. It may be a simple answer but the reality is so much goes into doing just this. I get a huge sense of satisfaction when I accomplish it.
How would you describe your day job to a child?
I talk to people all day long about my clients and what they do.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I love Bravo TV and get wrapped up the trashy reality shows – Real Housewives, Below Deck, Billion Dollar Listing. I can’t help it!
What’s something not many people know about you?
I was in a comic book a long, long time ago (I was a vampire’s victim and died.). The artist painted a huge portrait of me, and some stranger bought it. So somewhere out there, I’m hanging around in someone’s house (or in the attic, more likely).
Most embarrassing moment during your first job?
I was a hostess at a restaurant and it was really busy one weekend night. I was trying to rush and didn’t really look at the people I was seating. Funny thing, short people don’t like it when you offer them a kid’s menu. That taught me to slow down and look at who I’m speaking to.
Favourite thing about Boston? Or shall we say Los Angeles?
I love Boston because it’s where I’m from and where my roots are. While I think moving to LA has made me appreciate Boston more, I really enjoy seeing snow and ice only when I turn on Game of Thrones.
What are the three things you can’t live without?
Other than my husband and our pets, I need peanut butter, Blistex, and music in my life – but not all at once because that would be terribly messy.
